The Batman Who Laughs was created as the main antagonist for Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's Metal and Death Metal sagas. The Jokerized version of Batman from a nightmare Earth served the demon Barbatos and waged war on the multiverse. He was a formidable foe even to Superman. The Batman Who Laughs proved to be a savage villain, combining the insanity of the Joker with Batman's cunning and knowledge. While this helped him against foes he was ready for, it's not going to do much against someone he's not really ready for. It's the whole prep time thing; given enough time, the Batman Who Laughs can beat just about anyone. This is what made the Batman Who Laughs such a grave threat. He had all the intelligence of Batman combined with the insanity of the Joker. He challenged Lex Luthor for his place as the chief servant of Perpetua.
