Even an mercenary working for a kingdom cannot -- despite the fact that adding parties led by your own companions doesn't cost influence. Being king of your own lets you form an army, but in order for you to have formed a kingdom you need a fief (e.g. one of Imperial culture if you're going along the Imperial quest line), so chicken/egg problem.
It is absolutely same thing. Being vassal and having 6 companions with some Steward skill I can have 800 men army for 0 influence as long as I want. Nothing can stand against me at this point. But I don't mind, if there is some other way to train leadership skill at reasonable rate.

So the real problem here, as I see it, is the -3 and 4 loyalty based on faction. This should start at -3, go down to 0 within about a year of gameplay, and up to +3 after another year, OR you have the option to slaughter those disloyal to bring it up (but hurt prosperity and notable favor). -4 is just way too much.
Configurable Relations Penalty for Leaving A Kingdom at Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com) - Not working, crashing on new builds So if anyone already knows mods that do this I would be really grateful if you shared it with me. Simplest way is the perk, though. Trade isn't too difficult to get up, but it can be pretty tedious. Gets a lot easier levelling it once you get the first perk. I might be thinking of Warband but you used to be able to talk to your liege lord and hand back fiefs you owned, at a relationship penalty due in most cases.
